Merely Players Presents stages Nilo Cruz's romantic drama, Anna in the Tropics, set in 1929 Ybor City, Florida, within the vibrant backdrop of a cigar factory. The arrival of lector Juan Julian transforms the lives of Cuban-American workers as he reads Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, weaving themes of love and betrayal into their daily lives. Directed by Carla Scruggs and Rose Bianco, this production serves as a poignant tribute to the community's roots and shared histories, reflecting on the theater's deep connections to the Atlanta Cuban Club. Performances will be presented in both English and Spanish, showcasing the cultural heritage at the heart of the story.
