Georgia Shakespeare is canceling Shake at the Lake which was scheduled for May 7 - 11 at Piedmont Park. The event is canceled due to financial difficulties. There is hopes that the production will return next year.

Staging Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” “would have imperiled the rest of the season,” producing director Richard Garner said, “and the board is pretty up front that we shouldn’t be doing that.” Georgia Shakespeare’s five-play season at Oglethorpe University opens June 10 with “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

Shake at the Lake would have been a costly production using about 20 actors at a cost of $115,000. As it would have been a free event there would have been no way of recouping the production costs.

That coupled with Georgia Shakespeare's difficulty with finding donors have made it difficult for them to take on the project.
