BroadwayWorld is bringing you Words From the Wings, a new series of interviews that take fans behind the scenes of some of their favorite Broadway stars' backstage routines!
Today we're chatting with Caroline Kane, who is currently appearing in Water For Elephants. Caroline told us all about her backstage routines, favorite moments, and more!
Check out her answers, along with photos taken by BroadwayWorld's Jennifer Broski, below!
What’s the first thing you do when you arrive to the theatre?
I get my butt up to the 4th floor to greet my beautiful dressing room pals with a “hey hotties”. We are a tight knit group and spend our pin curl time gabbing and playing “would you rather?”
What’s the last thing you do before you go on stage?
As a full company we gather on the stage in a circle and have a moment community quoting the show: “Step right up, and put some wind in your sails!” We get to stand together in that moment as a reminder that even if we come from many various backgrounds and disciplines, we are one team.
What’s your must-have backstage snack?
I am an absolute SUCKER for “Just Mango” dried mango dipped in almond butter from Trader Joe’s. Don’t knock it til you try it.
Pre-show ritual that others may think is weird?
I split a Celsius (or two) with Bella and Keaton- two acrobats in the show/ some of my favorite people in the world. The show wouldn’t be the same without my go go juice.
What are five must-haves in your dressing room?
1) Celsius (sponsor me) 2) pictures of my loved one 3) yoga mat for naps 4)peanut butter 5) a million sweatshirts
What’s your favorite moment from the show to watch from the wings?
The car crash section of The Dream. I love watching the lines between dance and circus blur to create such a clear moment of poignant story telling. That’s the spirit of our show.
What has been your favorite backstage moment in your time with this show so far?
Okay, this was technically a part of the out of town experience at the Alliance Theatre, there was a version of “Ode to an Elephant” that Sean Stack (fellow ensemble and now dear friend) and I would hide behind a scaffold for the entirety of the song. We would do awful magic tricks and put on skits for the actors on stage... it was a show within itself. Don’t fire us, Jessica Stone).
(She/her) Broadway debut! Regional: The Alliance Theatre, Pittsburgh CLO, Goodspeed Opera House, Sacramento Music Circus, Walnut Street Theatre, Utah Shakespeare Festival.
