BroadwayWorld is bringing you Words From the Wings, a new series of interviews that take fans behind the scenes of some of their favorite Broadway stars' backstage routines!
Today we're chatting with Sophie Carmen Jones from Moulin Rouge! the Musical. Sophie told us all about her favorite backstage moments, routines and more!
Check out her answers, along with photos taken by BroadwayWorld's Jennifer Broski, below!
What’s the first thing you do when you arrive to the theatre?
I usually dump my bags and go straight to the stage to do a quick warm up and practice the lifts with whichever cast members are in the show that night.
What’s the last thing you do before you go on stage?
Kick my legs and riff. There’s a few can-can kicks in the show (believe it or not ;)) so I make sure my legs are ready for action. And I start the show with the Lady M’s so we are usually singing something (or I’m attempting to riff…)
What’s your must-have backstage snack?
Candy. I’m an absolute sugar fiend so I have a constant supply.
Pre-show ritual that others may think is weird?
I’m actually not one for rituals. I like to keep things fresh and not get stuck in my ways.
What are five must-haves in your dressing room?
Water. Candy. Coffee. Deodorant. Nice smelling stuff.
What’s your favorite moment from the show to watch from the wings?
End of act 2. It’s when the big Eiffel Tower gets pulled out and it’s all singing all dancing … it’s stunning.
What has been your favorite backstage moment in your time with this show so far?
My first SNOB. That’s “Saturday Night on Broadway” for anyone that didn’t know … which was me 6 months ago. I love that everyone stays and has a little drink and a social before heading home. I love a SNOB!
