The Tony Awards are like Christmas in June for theatre lovers, and that makes this year's nominees the reason for the season. This year's Tony nominees transported us with the magic of theatre, and we're saluting their work by taking a closer look at their extraordinary accomplishments. Today we're studying up on Casey Nicholaw!
His Nomination: Best Direction of a Musical
The Show: The Prom
Up Against: Rachel Chavkin (Hadestown), Scott Ellis (Tootsie), Daniel Fish (Oklahoma!), Des McAnuff (Ain't Too Proud)
Did You Know?: This is Casey's eleventh Tony nomination. He won in 2011 for his direction of The Book of Mormon.
Casey on The Prom: "I've enjoyed every second of it, I really have. Everything from the creative team to the cast, the designers, it was an absolute dream, everything about it. The creating of it, it took us a long time, but that's part of the joy of it too because you get to know the people for that long and you have a shorthand with each other, it really was fantastic."
