On last night's LATE LATE SHOW, host James Corden welcomed Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen to his theater company ahead of their performance of The Lion King in the crosswalk of Beverly Boulevard at CBS.
THE LION KING officially opened on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theater in November 1997, moving to the Minskoff Theatre in 2006 where it is still running after more than 6,700 performance. It is Broadway's third longest-running show in history and the highest grossing Broadway production of all time. The Lion King is based on the 1994 Disney animated film of the same name with music by Elton John and lyrics by Tim Rice along with the musical score created by Hans Zimmer with choral arrangements by Lebo M. The production was directed by Julie Taymor.
James Corden, who serves as host of CBS's THE LATE LATE SHOW, was recently named host of the 2016 TONY AWARDS. Since Corden took the reigns as host in March 2015, he has quickly become known for generating buzzworthy viral videos, such as Carpool Karaoke and his mix of celebrity guests, edgy musical acts, games and sketches. Corden differentiates his show by offering viewers a peek behind-the-scenes into the green room, bringing all of his guests out at once and lending his musical and acting talents to various sketches.
He recently starred opposite Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp and Emily Blunt in the Golden Globe Award-nominated feature film INTO THE WOODS. Additionally, Corden has hosted the BAFTA Award-winning UK sports-themed comedy game show "A League of Their Own" and starred in, produced and wrote the BAFTA nominated comedy thriller "The Wrong Mans." In 2013, Corden was awarded the Royal Television Society Award for Comedy Writer of the Year for his work on the show.
