Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller and Sara Bareilles stopped by this morning's TODAY to talk about the new Broadway musical Waitress. Following the interview, Mueller and the show's cast performed a mash-up of the first and last song from the show. Check it out below!
The highly anticipated new musical Waitress, opened April 24, 2016 at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Waitress played a sold out limited engagement at the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA.
Based upon the 2007 motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress is the first Broadway musical in history to have four women in the four top creative team spots, with book by Jessie Nelson, score by five-time Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, choreography by Lorin Latarro and direction by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus. The production also features a female music supervisor (Nadio DiGiallonardo), costume designer (Suttirat Larlarb), technical supervisor (Hillary Blanken of Juniper Street Productions), lead producers (Fran Weissler, Elayne Herrick) and executive producer (Alecia Parker).

Jenna (Jessie Mueller) is a Waitress and expert pie maker stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. Faced with an unexpected pregnancy, Jenna fears she may have to abandon the dream of opening her own pie shop forever... until a baking CONTEST in a nearby county and the town's handsome new doctor offer her a tempting recipe for happiness.
