Uptown Express ushers in an era of hope with a “soup to nuts” tour of great pop music, from the 2008 Jason Mraz hit “I’m Yours” to the 1938 “Sing For Your Supper.” In between, they will lift you up with music from The Temptations, Erasure, Dusty Springfield, The Crew Cuts, Madonna, The
Beatles and much more. This all-new show promises to raise your spirits with the optimistic sounds of a Brand New Day!

In addition, the show features a brand new song by Julie Gold, “Love is Love is Love.” Julie also wrote the phenomenal “From A Distance,” which the group will be performing with their special guest, Karen Mason, fresh from her Broadway run in the hit show Hairspray, where she played the deliciously wicked Velma Von Tussle.

Uptown Express has been delighting concert and cabaret audiences under the direction of James Followell for 16 years, ever since this dynamic pop group was first born out of the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus. The group has been shaped by Followell’s unique vision and vast performing
experience. The group’s diverse repertoire ranges from standards and show tunes to gospel and blues — all with fresh, exciting arrangements by Followell. Uptown Express has had the privilege of performing with many Broadway and cabaret greats, including Kristin Chenoweth, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Karen Mason, Sam Harris, Terri White, K.T. Sullivan, Klea Blackhurst, Melissa Errico, Steve Ross, Lina Koutrakous, Sidney Meyer and Mario Cantone.

Most recently, the group has been nominated for two MAC Awards from the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs: Recording and Vocal Group. Also, this year, the group has been honored to win awards from two distinguished New York City cabaret organizations: 2008 Best Vocal Group
Recording from Cabaret Hotline for their CD “Walk Like A Man,” and Outstanding Vocal Group from Back Stage Bistro for their 2008 shows at the Metropolitan Room.

Uptown Express features Christopher Caswell, John DePalma, David Gurland and Brad Parks. The group is backed by Dan Gross on drums, Sean Conly on bass and Music Director James Followell at the grand piano. The show is directed by Lennie Watts.
