Disney's The Lion King shattered the Minskoff Theatre box office record by grossing $1,402,984.02 for the week ending Sunday, November 26. The beats the previous record the of $1,259,937 which was set the week ending Sunday, July 23.
This marks the fifth time that The Lion King has set the box office record at the Minskoff since the show moved to the theatre in June.
Worldwide, The Lion King is the winner of over 70 major awards: six Tony® Awards, including Best Musical, eight Drama Desk Awards, six Outer Critics Circle Awards, the New York Drama Critics Award for Best Musical, a 1998 Theatre World Award, the Astaire Award for Outstanding Choreography, a Drama League Award and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
