Aspiring young actors from the NYC area joined with stars from School of Rock, Finding Neverland, The King and I, among others, for a Memorial Day weekend "Cast Recording Experience" with The Broadway Star Project. After Monday's powerful performance at The Triad, Eduardo Jimenez Pons (President of The BSP) said, "These talented artists accomplished so much more than recording an EP to benefit the NO BULLY organization, making a music video, and putting together a beautiful show. They grew as artists and individuals, too. They challenged themselves to do more, and by doing so, they inspired each other to be better."
With the superb guidance of Rommy Sandhu (Director), Peter Thoresen (Music Director), and of guest star Steel Burkhardt (Hair, Aladin), the cast learned, recorded and performed twelve songs from hit musicals like Hair, In The Heights, and Dear Evan Hansen, among others, learning more about their craft and themselves along the way. Each young performer had many moments to shine on stage, and in the group song, "This is Me" (from the celebrated movie, The Greatest Showman), the students were encouraged to celebrate their individuality, while also recognizing their power as a group.
"I have no doubt that a lot of these kids will work together again, someday. Some of them are Broadway actors now, and a lot of them will be, in the future. But, one of the things that made this experience special, is they were also exposed to what may be their future as a recording artist, a recording engineer or a music director. Someday they may find themselves directing a project and hiring someone they met during this experience, and they will look back at this time and realize how life-changing it was," remarked Asha Ironwood, a parent of one participant.
The Broadway Star Project was created by a team of parents of Broadway's School of Rock actors, who understand what it's like to bring up a musical theater kid. They had wished their kids had programs like these so they could experience the fast-paced life of a professional artist without the pressure of a Broadway Production.
The Broadway Star Project is committed to developing the future of Broadway, and have upcoming programming that will surely do just that, including a week-long summer "Broadway Star Experience", an 8-week course called "The Micro-musical Challenge", a seminar for parents called "Parents to the Stars", and "The Holiday Star Experience", an EP recording project to benefit BCEFA.
