Last weekend, 16-time Grammy winner Sting's new musical THE LAST SHIP sailed to Broadway's Neil Simon Theatre. With a powerful cast led by Michael Esper, Rachel Tucker, Aaron Lazar, and Fred Applegate, the original musical tells the story of Gideon Fletcher (Esper) and the people of his hometown: Wallsend, England. The cast of the Broadway-bound HONEYMOON IN VEGAS met the press earlier this week in anticipation of their opening night scheduled for this upcoming January. With a score by three-time Tony winner Jason Robert Brown and a book by Blazing Saddles and Andrew Bergman, the musical is already being eagerly anticipated by musical theatre fans everywhere. The principle cast features Tony nominee Rob McClure, Brynn O'Malley, and Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Tony Danza. Click here to see more from this special press event!

Broadway's favorite twins are officially back on Broadway at the St. James Theatre in this season's revival of SIDE SHOW. The revival began previews on Tuesday night starring Emily Padgett and Erin Davie as the Hilton twins. The company enjoyed an exciting opening night, complete with a visit from one of the stars of the original production: Tony Award winner Alice Ripley. Paper Mill Playhouse had much to celebrate last weekend when they closed their run of CAN-CAN, which opened their 2014-2015 with huge success. Starring Jason Danieley and Kate Baldwin, the musical features songs of Cole Porter and direction by David Lee. The musical was originally on Broadway in 1953 at the Shubert Theatre, and Paper Mill's revival is Broadway-bound! The cast recently celebrated their successful run in New York City, and BroadwayWorld was there for the festivities! Click here to see more coverage!

The Public Theatre's most recent production, FATHER COMES HOME FROM THE WARS, officially opened earlier this week! Written by Pulitzer Prize winner Suzan Lori-Parks, the play is told in three parts and follow the life of a slave named Hero during the American Civil War. The cast features Sterling K. Brown in the role of Hero and direction by Jo Bonney. BroadwayWorld was there for the opening night performance; click here to see more coverage!

The Belasco Theatre's newest Hedwig is Golden Globe and Drama Desk Award winner Michael C. Hall, and he had his official debut in the role earlier this week! Taking over Hedwig's heels from Tony nominee Andrew Rannells, who concluded performances in the role earlier this month, Hall is scheduled to perform through January 4th. Alongside him is Tony Award winner Lena Hall in the role of Hedwig's husband, Yitzhak, as well as the show's band Tits of Clay. Just last night, the newest Broadway production of the season opened at the American Airlines Theatre: Tom Stoppard's revered play THE REAL THING. This revival stars Ewan McGregor and Maggie Gyllenhaal in their Broadway debuts, as well as Cynthia Nixon and Josh Hamilton. Directed by Sam Gold, the play is scheduled to run through January 4th in a limited engagement. The play tells the story of Henry (McGregor) and his unfulfilling relationship with his wife (Nixon) that leads him to engage in an affair with the couple's friend, Annie (Gyllenhaal). Tony nominee Jeremy Jordan ("Newsies," "Finding Neverland") made his solo concert debut at 54 Below earlier this week with his show BREAKING CHARACTER. Jordan's show highlights some of the songs that have been significant during his rise to stardom, with selections from "Newsies," NBC's "Smash," and Jason Robert Brown's "The Last Five Years." Jordan is starring in the upcoming film adaptation of this musical alongside Anna Kendrick. Click here to see a first look at Jordan's cabaret debut!

Ben Vereen, the original leading player in Stephen Schwartz's acclaimed musical PIPPIN, visited with the current touring cast of the same musical last night! The tour is currently playing in Los Angeles starring Matthew James Thomas as Pippin, Sasha Allen as the Leading Player, Tony winner Andrea Martin as Berthe, and original cast member John Rubenstein as Charles. The 2013 Broadway revival of Pippin was met with wide success, winning four Tony Awards. Click here to see more backstage images of Vereen's visit!

The annual Dramatists Guild Fund Gala was held last Monday, October 27th at the Edison Ballroom. Entitled Great Writers Thank Their Lucky Stars, the event is an extremely important fundraising event for the Dramatists Guild Fund. Andrew Lippa hosted the event, which featured various writers and composers introducing the stars that popularized their work. Stephen Trask, Terrence McNally, Charles Strouse, and Jeanine Tesori were only a few of the writers who participated in the fundraiser.
