On Monday, the Benefit Concert Reading of ASSASSINS took place at Studio 54, on the same Broadway stage that Assassins thrilled audiences in 2004. The evening featured musical direction by Paul Gemignani and reunited the stars of the 2004 Tony Award winning production, including: Becky Ann Baker (Sara Jane Moore), James Barbour (Leon Czolgosz), Mario Cantone (Samuel Byck), Michael Cerveris (John Wilkes Booth),Alexander Gemignani (John Hinckley), Neil Patrick Harris (Balladeer/Lee Harvey Oswald), Marc Kudisch (Proprietor), Jeffrey Kuhn (Giuseppe Zangara) and Denis O’Hare (Charles Guiteau). The 9th Annual BROADWAY UNPLUGGED concert featured Broadway stars singing like the stars of yesteryear: without microphones! This edition of BROADWAY UNPLUGGED, featuring Cheyenne Jackson, Natalie Toro, Julia Murney, ORFEH, Andy Karl, William Michals, Jeffry Denman, Bill Daugherty, Barbara Walsh, Kelli Rabke, Carole J. Bufford, Christina Bianco and Scott Coulter and more, took place at the Town Hall earlier this week. Click here for more photos from the concert!

The 24th Annual GYPSY OF THE YEAR Competition, the culminating celebration of six weeks of fundraising by 51 participating Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring companies, raised $3,902,608 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The grand total was announced Tuesday, December 4, at this year's GYPSY OF THE YEAR, which included songs, original skits and dances performed by more than 200 of New York's best singers, dancers and musicians. On Monday night, some of Broadway's best young talent sang dazzling new arrangements of songs from Beyoncé's four hit albums, including a few selections from her previous group, Destiny’s Child. The concert marked the third of the “Broadway Sings” series; previously honored were Adele and Michael Jackson. Click here for full coverage of the concert.

Corey Cott and the cast of Newsies, the Tony® Award winning new American musical, will appear on the 2012 Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade, with a performance of “Carrying the Banner.” The parade airs on ABC, beginning at 10:00am, on Christmas morning, Tuesday, December 25, 2012. The stirring new rock musical Bare began previews Off-Broadway at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street) on Monday, November 19, 2012. Opening Night is set for Sunday, December 9, 2012. The company features Jason Hite (Jason), Taylor Trensch (Peter) and Elizabeth Judd (Ivy), with Gerard Canonico (Matt), Jerold E. Solomon (Father Mike), Barrett Wilbert Weed (Nadia) and Missi Pyle (Sister Joan). Click here for additional production shots!

LES MISERABLES might not open in movie theatres until Christmas day, but the big world premiere already went down, December 5, in London. Under the direction of Tom Hooper, the film will also star Sacha Baron Cohen as Thernardier, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, Aaron Tveit as Enjolras, Amanda Seyfried as Cosette, Samantha Barks as Eponine, and Helena Bonham Carter as Madame Thenardier. Due to ticket demand, 59E59 Theaters (Elysabeth Kleinhans, Artistic Director; Peter Tear, Executive Producer) announces added performances for the Prospect Theater Company production of WORKING. There is an added evening performance on Sunday, December 9 at 7:15 PM and added Saturday matinee performances on December 15, 22, and 29 at 2:15 PM. Check out more production shots here.

Thea Sharrock’s production of new musical The Bodyguard, opened earlier this week at the Adelphi Theatre, London. Based on Lawrence Kasdan’s 1992 Oscar nominated Warner Bros. film, The Bodyguard, with book by Alex Dinelaris, stars Heather Headley as Rachel Marron and Lloyd Owen as Frank Farmer. On Thursday, December 6, BroadwayWorld.com was there for the opening night of Lincoln Center Theater’s 75th Anniversary production of the Clifford Odets classic Golden Boy, directed by Bartlett Sher, at the Belasco Theatre (111 West 44 Street), the same theatre where the play premiered in 1937.
