A re-imagined version of the 1921 musical SHUFFLE ALONG, one of the earliest stage hits starring, written and directed by African-Americans, opened just last night, April 28, on Broadway at the Music Box Theatre. With direction and choreography by Tony Award® winner Casey Nicholaw (Something Rotten!, Aladdin, The Book of Mormon), Tuck Everlasting just opened this week at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 West 44th Street) and BroadwayWorld has on hand for all of the festivities. Drama Desk, Tony, and Emmy Award nominee and Theater World Award and NAACP Image Award winner Vanessa Williams and Drama Desk, Tony, Emmy, Golden Globe, and Drama League Award Nominee and SAG & TV Land Award winner Matthew Morrison announced the nominations for the 61st Annual Drama Desk Awards just yesterday. Coinciding with the Season 6 premiere of Game of Thrones, Kit Harington opened in the title role of DOCTOR FAUSTUS at Duke of York's Theatre in the West End last night. Jamie Lloyd's contemporary take on Marlowe's play features modern additions by Colin Teevan, replacing the contested middle section, designs by Soutra Gilmour, sound design by Ben and Max Ringham, and movement by Polly Bennett. The cast also includes Jenna Russell as Mephistopheles, Jade Anouka (Wagner), Tom Edden (Good Angel), Danielle Flett (Valdes), Brian Gilligan (Cornelius), Forbes Masson (Lucifer) and Craig Stein (Evil Angel) and ensemble member Gabby Wong. Five-time Emmy Award nominee Jesse Tyler Ferguson ("Modern Family," The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) makes his highly anticipated return to Broadway as nearly 40 outrageous characters in the smash hit comedy, FULLY COMMITTED by Becky Mode, directed by Tony nominee Jason Moore (Avenue Q, Pitch Perfect, Sisters). FULLY COMMITTED began performances on April 1 and just opened last night, April 25, 2016 on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre! The Public's Free Shakespeare in the Park production of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW is currently in rehearsal, and BroadwayWorld has a sneak peek at the company below! Directed by Phyllida Lloyd, this all-female production begins performances on May 24 and is part of the global 400th anniversary celebration of William Shakespeare's life and death. The free production will officially open on Tuesday, June 14 and run through Sunday, June 26. Check out more photos here!
