Time truly flies. I have already graduated, and I am finally ready to depart BroadwayWorld. And it is time for everyone else to depart their schools for the summer - which is why I have written this article on staying busy!
There are so many ways to stay busy this summer, with or without being in New York. For one, I am working A LOT this summer, after getting a second job the day before graduating. Juggling two jobs allows me not only to earn money, but to be with my friends during the summer! If I was not working, I would not be having fun after work going out.
If you’re in NYC, there’s plenty of free or cheap things to do all around the city like food fairs, festivals, events, concerts, and more! If you feel so inclined, rush a show! Plenty of amazing things are happening in the city in the summer - especially during Pride Month!
If you’re not going out on a contract for the summer, DO NOT BE WORRIED! This is not a time to bog yourself down and feel bad for yourself - in fact, there’s two things you can do about it. One, remember that other peoples’ successes are your successes as well. Your circle is not going to advance their careers at the same time, and it certainly isn’t a race to see who books a Broadway show first. Second, use this time to work on some of your skills! We are always learning, whether you are in a college program or not. Spending time on yourself and your business is going to help you get your mind off of things.
Most importantly, do things beyond your career path! Try something new and balance yourself - it’s always good to start a new hobby when there is a lull in auditioning.
I hope everyone has a good summer, and that all departing members feel as fulfilled as I do having written for BroadwayWorld. Cheers!
