It's almost time for THE movie release of the summer - In the Heights. You've rewatched every trailer, and now it's time to prepare for the real thing. But how do you even begin to plan a watch-party for this season's most anticipated release? Us theatre-lovers have waited a long time for this movie, so if you're going to celebrate, you've got to do it right.

Let's start with the obvious - themed food and drink. No party is complete without food puns to match the theme, and I wasn't going to leave you hanging. So, if you're in need of some assistance, here's some ideas to get you started:

  • Washington 'Bites'

  • Benny's 'Batch (of cookies)'

  • Champagne (no changing that one, but skip to the next if under 21)

  • The Club (Sandwich)

  • Mac-out (like Blackout, but just a lot of macaroni and cheese), or Snack-out (if the last one was too cheesy for you, also, I'm sorry)

  • 96,000 - anything

Extra points if you dress up the table like Usnavi's bodega. And no, I'm not a blogger because I have great puns, so don't hate me.

If you need a little pre-movie excitement, let's talk activities.

  • Karaoke is a no-brainer, and with YouTube it's easy to find any track. Grab some friends and sing along with the cast album!

  • Alternatively, turn your living room into "The Club" and dance your way into the opening sequence.

Now, of course, any "party" should be done carefully and within current CDC guidelines. Go get vaccinated, and consider an outdoor "carnaval" instead for the time being!

In the Heights releases to HBO Max on June 11, so get to planning - and be sure to check BroadwayWorld for any new "ITH" content before the release! Until then, check out the trailer below.
