Nothing beats the experience that live theatre brings.
October 22, 2021. The infamous day that I got to see my first live theatre performance IN A MINUTE.
But let's rewind for a second. Since the pandemic started live theatre took a hit, as we all are aware. Not much was going on with live performances, not only for Broadway, but for local theatre, colleges, etc. The past school year in the pandemic my school was able to put on a few performances, but not in person, all through streaming.
Was I grateful for this? 100%, but there is a big difference from at home vs live theatre. That feeling you get as you watch the lights go down, the excitement from those around you, and the energy buzzing off the actors on stage as they begin their performance.
Needless to say, I have been craving a live theatre performance.
Ok, fast forward to July 10, 2021, when I was able to get a taste of live theatre. My sister and I on a whim bought tickets to Andrew Barth Feldman's "Disney Park Map" show at Feinstein's 54 Below. Can I just say, 10/10 show, cried, laughed, sang, it was a great experience, google it, trust me you won't be disappointed.
Now this was great, I got to be back in NYC, hear some live music, it was fantastic. But nothing beats the emotions I felt when I got to see my school's production of Pippin.
Alright --- we're back to the present. It's Friday, I'm in my seat, and I'm waiting for the show to begin. I'm ashamed to say that I had never seen Pippin, or listened to any of the music. So I was going in blind. But I was kinda glad that I did. Being able to experience the story of this boy named Pippin, who is looking for something extraordinary, and going on this journey of self discovery was amazing.
Watching the show you could see how enthused the cast was was to be back on stage in front of a live audience. They did an incredible storytelling and I cannot wait to catch the next show.
Nothing beats the experience that live theatre brings.
