In my community, the performing arts are a cornerstone of connection, creativity, and collaboration. At Greenhills School, our theater program is more than just an extracurricular—it’s a family. This year, we’re putting on Something Rotten, a ridiculously funny musical about the creation of the first musical, complete with Shakespeare, tap dancing, and egg-related humor. It’s the kind of show that captures the energy and camaraderie that Greenhills Theater is known for.

For me, this production is bittersweet. As a senior, Something Rotten will be my last musical at Greenhills. Over the years, the theater program has given me countless memories, friendships, and lessons, and I want to make the most of every moment. This year, I’m working on props, which is one of my favorite parts of being backstage. From sourcing and crafting the perfect items to seeing them integrated into the performance, props are such an integral part of telling the story. I love being part of the crew that brings the world of the play to life, even if we’re not the ones under the spotlight.

Right now, rehearsals are in full swing. The cast is nailing down their scenes and learning all the music and choreography, while the tech crew is preparing for the real work to start after winter break. Tech week, which begins as soon as school resumes, is an intense but rewarding time. That’s when everything—lights, sets, props, costumes, sound—comes together, transforming the bare stage into a vibrant world. I’m excited to be part of the action, ensuring every prop is in its place, from the silly to the essential.

Greenhills Theater isn’t just about putting on a great show (although we certainly aim for that). It’s about the community we build along the way. One of the traditions that makes this program so special is the senior circle. Every year, before the final performance, the cast and crew gather in a big circle, and the seniors give speeches about what theater has meant to them. It’s a time to reflect, to thank the people who’ve supported us, and to share memories that make us laugh, cry, or both.

I’ve been looking forward to—and dreading—my turn in the senior circle for years. I’ve watched so many seniors before me pour their hearts out, and now it’s my turn. I already know how emotional it will be to say goodbye to something that has been such a big part of my life.

Theater has taught me so much—not just about performance or backstage work, but about teamwork, problem-solving, and finding joy in the creative process. It’s given me a place where I feel like I belong, and I’ll always treasure the friendships I’ve made here.

As we countdown to opening night, I’m determined to soak up every moment, from the chaos of tech week to the exhilaration of the final curtain call. Greenhills Theater has shaped who I am, and I’m so grateful to take my final bow with this incredible community by my side.
