As of the writing of this blog, I have been a senior in high school for five months, or 22 weeks, or 159 days. It also has felt like the longest five months of my life. Like many other seniors, I have succumbed to the emotions of senioritis (example A, my sad senior era Spotify playlist) and the constant countdown to graduation (118 days). While senioritis can be perceived as a silly little thing, it has been a brutal start to semester two for me, with constant texts asking my mom to let me leave early or begging her as soon as I wake up to let me sleep in just this once! Spoiler alert, she never lets me.

Even though I would graduate tomorrow if I could, I am terrified to leave high school. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been dreaming about going to college since middle school. But leaving the same people I’ve gone to school with for four years, some even longer, and leaving my school music and theatre departments is the hardest part about my looming graduation.

I may be a little over dramatic, because I only have four classes this year. Two band classes, a general science class, and AP Literature make up my four hour school days this year. But my day doesn’t end there - I spend three hours after classes interning at a local elementary school, which is easily the best part of my day. Whether I’m in general music classes, band, art, early childhood, or upper elementary, I have the best times with some awesome kids and get to learn from some amazing teachers.

Overall, I’m trying to savor every moment of my last semester of high school. My schedule isn’t everything I could dream of, but I’m grateful for the opportunities and the lower course load for my final ever high school semester!
