BWW has just learned that previews for SHUFFLE ALONG, which have been cancelled this week (Monday, March 21-Thursday, March 24) due to the illness of one of its stars, Audra McDonald, will resume on Friday, March 25 at The Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street).
"I'd much rather be on stage at The Music Box than at home with my Dr. Nelson's Inhaler and Mucinex, but unfortunately with this nasty cold, I'm sounding less like my character Lottie Gee and more like Animal from The Muppets," Ms. McDonald commented. "I miss my Shuffle Along colleagues and am looking forward to returning to the show as soon as I can."
Shuffle Along's previously announced hiatus, beginning Monday, March 28 and resuming Saturday, April 2, will now end one day earlier, with an added 8:00 PM performance on Friday, April 1. The added performance will provide ticketholders for this week's cancelled shows the option to reschedule as soon as possible.
Shuffle Along, the groundbreaking 1921 musical by songwriters Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake and writer-performers F.E. Miller and Aubrey Lyles, has a new book and is directed by George C. Wolfe, choreographed by Savion Glover and also stars Brian Stokes Mitchell, Billy Porter, Brandon Victor Dixon and Joshua Henry, heading a cast of 35.
Opening night is Thursday, April 28 at The Music Box Theatre.
