After six Tony Award nomination, Kelli O'Hara turned one of them into a win with her first ever Tony Award for Leading Actress in a Musical for her role as Anna Leonowens in The King and I. Kelli O'Hara ascended the Radio City Music Hall stage at the 69th Annual Tony Awards and received a standing ovation, one that has been awaiting her during the course of her 18 year long Broadway career. O'Hara gave one of the best acceptance speeches of the night when she thanked her parents, Lincoln Center, her teacher and mentor Florence Birdwell, the entire company of The King and I, Bartlett Sher and of course her wonderful husband Greg Naughton. She ended the rousing, tear-inducing speech by saying, "Thank you so much and for coming to see our shows and I'll back! Maybe not up here but on the theater stage. I'm going to do The Worm!" It was the concert presentation heard around the world, or at least around the Broadway community and with SMASH fans. This past week, members of the Smash cast reunited for a one-night-only concert event, BOMBSHELL IN CONCERT. The event raised money for The Actors Fund and featured appearances by Megan Hilty, Katharine McPhee, Debra Messing, Christian Borle, Brian d'Arcy James, Jeremy Jordan, Ann Harada, Wesley Taylor, Lesie Odom Jr and many others. Smash ran on NBC for two seasons and revolved around a fictional New York City theater community and specifically the creation of a new Broadway musical, Bombshell. The concernt event was one for the ages and Smash fans were ecstatic over this one-night only concert event. To see more photos from the event visit here.

Since Netflix and ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK surprised viewers last night by releasing the entire third season early, you probably haven't left a computer or television screen. Before Orange Is the New Black fever hit this weekend, Laverne Cox swung by IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU to see this hilarious, heartfelt new musicals tarring Tyne Daly, David Burtka, Sierra Boggess and many others. "You're tacky and I hate you." SCHOOL OF ROCK has been turned into a brand-new Broadway musical by composer Andrew Lloyd Weber. The musical is set to star Alex Brightman as the lead character, Dewey Finn. Before it heads to Broadway this fall, School of Rock rocked the Gramercy Theatre (127 E 23rd Street) for a brief residency, June 3rd through June 6th. School of Rock follows struggling rock singer and guitarist, Dewey Finn, who is kicked out of his band and subsequently disguises himself as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. After witnessing the musical talent in his students, Dewey forms a band of fourth-graders to attempt to win the upcoming Battle of the Bands and pay off his rent. Patti LuPone and Michael Urie are together again, this time in the new play SHOWS FOR DAYS. The comedic play is set in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1973, when 14-year-old Car, the play's narrator and the author's alter-ego (Urie), is introduced to the world of theater through his local community theatre, the Prometheus Theatre, and its devoted cast and crew which is led by Irene (LuPone), an indomitable force of nature whose life is dedicated to putting on productions she directs, designs, and stars in. It's one of the most groundbreaking, inspiring new musicals of this generation and now it's the 2015 Tony Award winner for Best Musical. The FUN HOME cast gathered at the Café Carlyle after the 2015 Tony Awards to celebrate their new Tony Award. Fun Home is the breakout musical of the past Broadway season. Fun Home is a groundbreaking new musical that is based on Alison Bechdel's best-selling graphic memoir. The musical introduces Alison at three different ages, revealing memories of her uniquely dysfunctional family including her mother, her younger brothers and her brilliant, enigmatic father. Fun Home is being performed at the Circle in the Square Theatre in NYC and is taking the Broadway community by storm. Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming rocked the Radio City Music Hall stage at the 69th Annual Tony Awards as this years hosts. The dynamic duo pulled out all the stops and kept the night moving. From singing with the Tony nominated cast of Something Rotten! to loving Josh Groban, the entire evening was a success for these two hosts. One of the best moments of the night? Kristin Chenoweth coming out in a full E.T costume and we think it's safe to say that's the first time that has ever happened. This past week The Public Theater celerbrated their 2015 Summer Gala, which included a special performance of the free Shakespeare in the Park production of THE TEMPEST, featuring a cast that included Sam Waterston and Jesse Tyler Ferguson and directed by Michael Greif. The summer gala also honored Bernard Spitzer (1924-2014) and Anna Spitzer for their extraordinary support over several years. The 2015 Public Theater summer gala featured appearances by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Anne Hathaway, Jonathan Groff, Sandra Oh, Julianna Margulies, Alan Rickman, Jane Lynch, Tommy Tune and many more. The beloved Broadway tradition continued this week as Sardi's (234 West 44th Street) added a caricature for three-time Tony Award winning choreographer and director Kathleen Marshall to its walls with an unveiling celebration. Joined by her family, Tony Award winners Joel Grey and Kelli O'Hara, Marshall's caricture will adorn the walls of Sardi's alongside other Broadway legends. Playhouse on Park finishes its fabulous sixth season with Tony-award winning HAIR, a worldview-shattering musical that, upon its initial premiere, delivered social commentary with a punch that remains relevant to this day. HAIR runs now through July 19. With book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, their work presents itself as a rock musical alive with timeless vitality. Original music by Galt McDermot include titillating numbers such as "Aquarius", "I Believe In Love", and "Good Morning Starshine", which promise to evoke memories for all who lived through the exciting time that was post mid-century America.
