Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus' MAMMA MIA! celebrated 4,000 performances in its landmark 10th Anniversary year at the Winter Garden Theatre last night, May 31. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the event and brings you photo coverage below!
At the celebration, MAMMA MIA! gave back to the fans who have danced in the aisles for the last decade and "thanked them for the music" by treating the entire Winter Garden Theatre audience to custom made Magnolia Bakery cupcakes as a sweet toast to mark the benchmark performance.
MAMMA MIA! is currently the 11th longest running show in Broadway history, having surpassed the record breaking original runs of legendary musicals such as Fiddler on the Roof; Hello, Dolly!; Annie; My Fair Lady, 42nd Street and Cabaret.
Seen by over 45 million people around the world, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus' MAMMA MIA! remains one of Broadway's top selling musicals. The current North American Tour has played over 3,600 performances in over 135 cities with 145 repeat visits. The originAl West End production of MAMMA MIA! is now in its twelfth year and has celebrated over 5,000 performances in London and the international tour has visited more than 50 foreign cities and been seen by 3.7 million people. MAMMA MIA! stars Lisa Brescia (Wicked) as "Donna Sheridan" and Judy McLane (Chess, Kiss of the Spiderwoman) and Jennifer Perry (Broadway debut) as "Tanya" and "Rosie," Donna's best friends and former back-up band known as "Donna and the Dynamos." Liana Hunt is bride-to-be "Sophie Sheridan" and Corey Greenan is her fiancé "Sky." Tony Award® nominee John Dossett (Gypsy) is "Sam Carmichael," Patrick Boll (Faith Healer) is "Bill Austin" and Clarke Thorell (Hairspray, Lone Star Love)is "Harry Bright," the trio of men from Donna's past and Sophie's three possible dads.Inspired by the story-telling magic of ABBA's timeless songs, writer Catherine Johnson's sunny, funny tale of family and friendship unfolds on a tiny Greek island.
