Yesterday, February 15, Yellow Sound Label released the debut CD of acclaimed Broadway's Christopher Jackson on iTunes, Amazon.com and other online outlets. The album hits stores on March 19. In the Name of Love is a new album of soulful and melodic contemporary R&B written and co-produced by Jackson. In honor of the online release yesterday, Jackson was joined by Lin-Manuel Miranda and other In The Heights alum at The Canal Room for a special concert.
He was also joined by special guests Arthur and the Geniuses. Jackson co-produced the album with Michael Murphy, Bill Sherman and Michael Croiter.
BroadwayWorld was on hand for the concert and brings you photo coverage below.
Jackson recently starred as Benny in the Tony Award winning musical hit, In the Heights and TV shows such as "White Collar," "Nurse Jackie," and "Gossip Girl." He is also a veteran of the long-running Broadway production of Disney's The Lion King, directed by Julie Taymor. As a composer and songwriter, he has written for the iconic television series "Sesame Street" lending his music and lyrics to songs like "I Love My Hair" and "What I Am" performed by Will.I.Am of The Black Eyed Peas. He also has written songs for A-list artists such as LL Cool J, Ne-Yo, Mario, Sean Kingston and many others.
In The Name of Love - an eclectic collection that shows the influences of Jackson's musical inspirations Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield and the Isley Brothers, yet strives to move beyond them - opens with the title number, an emotional love song about the joys of a new romance. The rhythmically uplifting "Be A Light" delivers a pointed message of hope in a time of adversity. "One More Day," based on Jackson's experience of his mother fighting and beating cancer, deftly explores issues of faith and tradition.
