This year's 56th Annual Drama Desk Awards, scheduled to take place in May, will undergo a major overhaul designed to enhance its national visibility and outreach and provide all segments of New York Theater a larger national footprint than ever before. Announcement of those changes were made public yeterday, February 24, at a News Conference in the Inc Lounge. As reported, one of these changes includes the televising of the ceremony on Ovation, hosted by Harvey Fierstein.
Theater community notables on hand in support of the Drama Desk Awards, include: Gregory Jbara (Billy Elliot), Len Cariou, Nikki James (The Book of Mormon), Raul Esparza (Arcadia), KT Sullivan, Adam Wade (The Color Purple), Jeree Wade (Shades of Harlem), Mercedes Ellington (Sophisticated Ladies), Eden Sanaa (Fences, The Lion King), J. Robert Spencer (Jersey Boys, next to normal), Veanne Cox (A Free Man of Color, La Cage Aux Folles), Daniel Beatty (Through The Night), Robin LeMon (The Misanthrope), Barry Pearl (Baby It's You), cast members of Memphis, Heather Jane Rolff (star of Fat Pig), Heather Provost (lead producer, Fat Pig), Ken Davenport (producer, Godspell), Jim Morgan and Elisa Spencer Kaplan (York Theatre Company), songwriter Ervin Drake, as well as others to be confirmed.
Also in attendance was be Drama Desk President Isa Goldberg and other members of the Drama Desk Board and general membership.
