As BroadwayWorld reported last night, Oscar nominee Michelle Williams will star for the first time on Broadway as 'Sally Bowles' in Roundabout Theater Company's upcoming production of Cabaret. She will take the stage alongside Alan Cumming as the Emcee at Studio 54 in 2014, co-directed by Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall. In the videos below, Williams shows off her pipes in My Week with Marilyn and and some of her other previous roles. How do you think she'll fare in a Broadway musical?
Williams was nominated for an Academy Award each for her performances in Brokeback Mountain, Blue Valentine and My Week with Marilyn. Her upcoming films include Suite française and The Double Hour. She last appeared on the big screen in Oz the Great and Powerful.
Cabaret is based on a book written by Christopher Isherwood, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. The 1966 Broadway production became a hit and spawned a 1972 film starring Liza Minnelli and Joel Grey. It was revived on Broadway in both 1987 and 1998. Rehearsals for CABARET are scheduled to begin in January 2014.
