MCC THEATER has announced that this year's Miscast gala, an annual showstopper of the theater season, will honor Oscar winning star of stage & screen and MCC alum Marisa Tomei. Tomei won the Oscar for her unforgettable performance in My Cousin Vinny and received both Oscar and Golden Globe Award nominations for her work in the films In the Bedroom and The Wrestler. On stage, she most recently appeared in the acclaimed Broadway production of Will Eno's The Realistic Joneses, and performed at MCC in their inaugural season production of Alan Bowne's Beirut. She will next be seen on Fox's hit drama series "Empire." Miscast 2016 is set for Monday, April 4, 2016 at The Hammerstein Ballroom (311 West 34th Street). In a statement, honoree Marisa Tomei said: "I have a deep love for MCC Theater and the important work it champions. That love affair started in MCC's first season when I took on the role of Blue in Alan Bowne's world premiere of Beirut. My experience with MCC has guided me ever since. The relationships I made, the knowledge I gained - so much of that is still a part of my life today. I am thrilled to be honored at the Miscast Gala and play a role in this celebratory night supporting the essential work that defines MCC Theater."
MCC Theater's annual Miscast gala is one of the most exciting and unique theater events in town. Broadway's hottest stars perform songs from roles in which they would never be cast. An all-star lineup of performers will be announced at a later date.
Proceeds from Miscast 2016 will, as always, support MCC Theater's mission to develop and produce exciting work Off-Broadway, as well as its Youth Company and partnerships with New York City public high schools, and MCC's literary development work with emerging playwrights.
