Hugh Vanstone has won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Lighting Design of a Musical for MATILDA THE MUSICAL.

Hugh Vanstone's credits include I'll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers (Booth), Ghost (Lunt-Fontanne, Tony nomination for Best Lighting), La Bête (MusicBox), A Steady Rain (Schoenfeld), God of Carnage (Jacobs), Mary Stuart (Broadhurst, Tony and Drama Desk nominations for Best Lighting), Shrek (Broadway), Boeing-Boeing (Longacre), and Spamalot (Shubert, Tony nomination for Best Lighting).

The Royal Shakespeare Company's world premiere production of Roald Dahl's MATILDA THE MUSICAL has captured the imagination of young and old alike, and continues to play to packed houses at London's Cambridge Theatre. The London production was the winner of a record-breaking seven Olivier Awards in 2012, and the show has since won five other Best Musical awards.

Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, with original songs from comedian Tim Minchin and book by Dennis Kelly, MATILDA is a captivating new musical masterpiece that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dares to change her destiny.

The production is directed by Matthew Warchus and designed by Rob Howell with choreography by Peter Darling, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, musical supervision and orchestration by Christopher Nightingale, sound by Simon Baker and special effects and illusions are by Paul Kieve.
