Post-Labor Day blues? Broadway's Waitress welcomes the end of summer with a post-show talkback next Wednesday, September 7, following the evening performance. Director Diane Paulus will moderate a conversation with stars Jessie Mueller and Jenna Ushkowitz from the stage. All audience members are invited to stay for the conversation.
Following a sold-out limited engagement at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA, the Broadway production of Waitress opened Sunday, April 24 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street). Previews began Friday, March 25. Based upon the 2007 motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress is the first Broadway musical in history to have four women in the four top creative team spots, with a book by Jessie Nelson, a score by five-time Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, choreography by Lorin Latarro and direction by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus.
Producers have announced that the national tour of the acclaimed new musical will begin at Cleveland's Playhouse Square on October 17, 2017.
Produced by Sara Bareilles and Neal Avron, the cast album was released on DMI Soundtracks and distributed by Warner-Elektra-Atlantic Corporation.
WAITRESS was nominated for four Outer Critics' Circle Awards, including Outstanding New Broadway Musical; two Drama League Award Nominations, including Outstanding Production of a Broadway or Off-Broadway Musical; six Drama Desk Nominations, including Outstanding Musical; and four Tony Award Nominations, including Best Musical.
Waitress tells the story of Jenna (Jessie Mueller), an expert pie maker in a small town, who dreams of a way out of her loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town's new doctor (Drew Gehling) may offer her a chance at a new life, while her fellow Waitresses (Jenna Ushkowitz and Keala Settle) offer their own recipes to happiness. But Jenna must find the courage and strength within herself to rebuild her life. This new American musical celebrates friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.
WAITRESS stars Tony Award-winner Jessie Mueller as Jenna, with Drama Desk nominee Eric Anderson (Cal), Tony Award nominee Nick Cordero (Earl), Tony Award nominee Christopher Fitzgerald (Ogie), Drew Gehling (Dr. Pomatter), Jenna Ushkowitz (Dawn), Dakin Matthews (Joe), Tony Award nominee Keala Settle (Becky), Charity Angél Dawson, Thay Floyd, Henry Gottfried, Molly Hager, Aisha Jackson, Molly Jobe, Claire Keane, McKenna Keane, Max Kumangai, Jeremy Morse, Ragan Pharris, Stephanie Torns and Ryan Vasquez.
