I love Malin Akerman's sexy and sophisticated style and think she always dresses her slim, atheltic figure perfectly. But I am a little on the fence about this vintage Victor Costa dress the star wore to Sunday night's Primetime Creative Emmy Awards. I am all for vintage pieces and this one in particular is a great find. But, the same element that makes the black dress interesting is the same element that makes it a bit of a head scratcher: the ruffle.
Here's the issue - the dress is not a 360 degree dress. What do I mean by that? Well if you look at the first picture of Akerman, she looks stunning! The oversized ruffle is accentuating her tiny waiste - oh, did I mention she just had a baby in April? And then again, when she turns to the side, the dress looks even better! The ruffle is cascading down her body and adds so much interest and intrigue. But if you look at the dress straight on, the ruffle makes her look wide, which is really hard to do. And from behind, its just awkward! It is like her hips have wings. So basically, from 3/4 front and side, major thumbs up! Straight on and from behind? Not so much.
