Sirius/XM's LIVE ON BROADWAY host Seth Rudetsky treated fans to a lively interview with Tony Award winner singer/songwriter Douglas Hodge on Wednesday, March 16th. In addition to sharing wonderful anectodes and stories about his theater experiences, Hodge revealed to the live audience that he is currently in talks to star in a possible revival of the award winning musical BARNUM.
Hodge is currently performing his cabaret show, "An Evening with Doug Hodge" at Cafe Carlyle in Manhattan. In the interview, Hodge shared with LIVE"s audience that his current act includes his rendition of Cy Coleman and Michael Stewart's "Out There" from BARNUM, in addition to a number of original songs which he wrote himself.
The original Broadway production of BARNUM debuted in 1980 and ran for 854 performances. It was nominated for a variety of Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Original Score and earned a Best Actor award for Jim Dale, who starred as the 19th century circus owner, P.T. Barnum.
Reports back in 2009 suggested that Cameron Mackintosh is attached to produce a West End revival of the show. In the originAl West End production, Michael Crawford played the role for 4 years (now available on DVD), winning much acclaim and an Olivier Award for the part.
Douglas Hodge won the 2010 Tony Award for his role as Albin in the revival of "La Cage aux Folles". His cabaret show "An Evening With Doug Hodge" runs through March 26 at the Café Carlyle, 35 East 76th Street, Manhattan.
