Carroll Baker To Be Honored at NAC, 6/15

Legendary actress Carroll Baker will be awarded the prestigious Medal of Honor at a dinner held in her honor at The National Arts Club in New York City on June 15th. Baker, whose most notable film, Baby Doll (1956), garnered her a Golden Globe and Academy Award nomination for Best Actress,  will join the esteemed ranks of previous honorees including Arthur Penn, Cliff Robertson, Sylvia Sydney, Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, Whoopi Goldberg, Richard Dreyfuss, Danny Aiello, Lynn Redgrave, Olympia Dukakis and Norman Jewison.

After leaving her hometown of Johnstown, PA, Carroll Baker got her start in the spotlight by working as a dancer and a magician's assistant before beginning her film career in 1953 with Easy to Love. She later moved on to working on legendary films such as Giant (1956), in which she starred opposite ElizaBeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean and in 1957 she won an Academy Award for Most Promising Newcomer alongside Jayne Mansfield and Natalie Wood. Other films include How the West Was (1962), The Carpetbaggers (1964), Harlow (1965), Star 80 (1983), Ironweed (1987) and Kindergarten Cop (1990) amongst many others.

Carroll Baker has written three books and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The National Arts Club is pleased to honor her for her timeless work in the performing arts industry.
