Country music superstar Carrie Underwood is set to set small screens alight later this year with her headlining turn in a live NBC TV presentation of Rodgers & Hammerstein's celebrated family-friendly musical THE SOUND OF MUSIC and she comments on the upcoming production in a new interview.

"Right now, I'm working a lot on my own," Underwood says, "Memorizing lines, working on the music with help."

The American Idol winner adds of the vocal demands as well as the transformation taking place in preparing to play the hallowed part, "I don't want it to sound like Carrie Underwood, country singer, singing THE SOUND OF MUSIC," she states.

"I really want to do the part justice, the way it was written, and immerse myself in this whole other world," Underwood relates.

She concludes, "I'm really excited to get that opportunity to step outside of my world and try something new."
