Camp Broadway®, Broadway's Original Summer Camp, will be held in New York City for two separate weeks only, July 13 - 17 and August 3 - 7. This summer's program will feature two recent hit musicals, Kander and Ebb's Curtains and Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr. Applications are now being accepted for theatre-loving kids ages 9-18 at www.CampBroadway.com.
Now in its 14th season, Camp Broadway is designed for kids who want an intensive musical theatre experience taught by Broadway-trained professionals. The 5-day program includes: instruction in singing, dancing and acting of scenes from the featured shows, master classes and meet-and-greets with creative talents, and special events including a field trip to Times Square to see the new hit musical Shrek playing at the Broadway Theatre. The program culminates with a musical stage presentation for family and friends.
"Curtains is the perfect show for our 13 -18 year old ensemble who love Kander and Ebb," says Camp Broadway Artistic Director Tony Parise. "It is both a backstage murder mystery and a romantic comedy, but first and foremost, it is about the incredible thrill of putting on a great big musical -- the effort and teamwork that earns a company the rich reward of an audience's laughter and applause."
Rupert Holmes, author of Curtains and Say Goodnight, Gracie, and author-composer of The Mystery of Edwin Drood says, "We are thrilled that Curtains, which I had the honor of writing with the legendary team of Kander and Ebb (Cabaret, Chicago), has been selected by Camp Broadway. To quote its detective hero, 'Putting on a musical has got to be the most fulfilling thing a person could ever hope to do!' And what better setting for songs and scenes from Curtains than at Camp Broadway, where talented young people experience every aspect of musical theatre and the joy of becoming true "Show People." I hope to witness first-hand the results of their labor of love and to offer them my loudest 'Bravo!' and 'Encore!'"
Also, Camp Broadway will feature the magical story of Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr. in sessions for children ages 9-12.
