So you didn't win the lottery for a prime seat along Pennsylvania Avenue on Inauguration Day? Not to worry. Bring your neighbors and come in out of the cold as Bay Street Theatre once again throws open its doors for a not-to-be-missed event.  On Tuesday, January 20th, with history in-the-making, Bay Street invites the public to gather for the Inauguration of the first African American President of the United States—by watching it all unfold on the big screen with family, friends, and co-workers. Students and groups are welcome too. The doors open at 10am, and coffee and refreshments will be available for purchase.

While Inauguration Day itself is only part of a week-long program to celebrate this moment in history, the management team at Bay Street expects to draw crowds throughout the morning to see the actual swearing in of President Elect Obama. The televised schedule includes the swearing in, followed by numerous musical performances, including Hampton scene regulars, Aretha Franklin and Itzhak Perhlman.. "It doesn't matter what political party you belong to", says General Manager Tracy Mitchell, who is quick to remind patrons that this is a non-partisan screening. "It's just fun to share these types of moments in history with your neighbors and others with whom you live and work. This is the type of moment when people will remember where they were when it happened. It's a part of history."

In keeping with its goal of giving back to the community, Bay Street Theatre will continue with these special community events that have proven to be so popular with locals and weekenders alike. Gary Hygom, Managing Director/Producer reminds people that the theatre is also available for rentals of all kinds—from kids parties to private film screenings, from performances to corporate meetings. "Think of Bay Street as simply a great place to gather, especially during these cold months. Imagine throwing your own Super Bowl party here as opposed to messing up your own home that day. And what better way to see it than on a 20 foot high screen?"  Hygom went on to say that anyone interested in renting the theatre that day or for any other event can do so easily by calling him in the theatre's administrative offices at 631-725-0818.

The Bay Street schedule continues at the end of the week with the ever popular 'economy buster' favorite-- The Picture Show at Bay Street presented by BookHampton with a celebration of David Lean Films. On Friday, January 23rd it's Great Expectations, followed on Saturday the 24th with Ryan's Daughter. These classic films are presented every weekend as they were meant to be seen - - on the big screen. Tickets are $5 each, available at the door, and the doors open at 7:30 pm, movies start at 8:00 pm. The American Hotel also continues with its special offer of "Dinner and A Movie" 3-course prix fixe meal and movie ticket for only $25! Call The American Hotel directly to make reservations.
