On June 7, 2015, a whole new group of Broadway community members were honored with 2015 Tony Awards for their excellence in theater this past season. From first time winners to veterans, the 2015 Tony Awards were filled to the brim with exciting wins. Some of the Tony Award winners stopped by to chat with BroadwayWorld and show off their new, shiny Tony Award statues with the classic "spinning of the Tony" and tell us what comes to mind as they spin it.
Tony Award Winner for Best Actor in a Play, Alex Sharp (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time) tells BWW that it makes him think of his classmates in his graduating class at Julliard. Sharp graduated only last year from Julliard and then jumped into his role of Christopher in Curious Incident. He says, "I couldn't have gotten this without the four years of learning from their amazing abilities."
Catherine Zuber, who took home the Tony Award for Best Costumes in a Musical for her work in The King and I talks about how lucky she is to be doing something she loves meanwhile Annaleigh Ashford, who won for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance in You Can't Take It With You, makes her hum a glorious tune as it spins and catches the light.
Kelli O'hara finally took home the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her work as Anna Leonowens in The King and I. This was O'Hara's sixth Tony Award nomination and fans eagerly awaited for her to finally win a Tony Award. She spins her first, much deserved Tony Award and says, "I don't need you but I really, really like you."
