BroadwayWorld's Richard Ridge was thrilled to sit down and speak with nearly all of this year's Tony Award nominees at the official Tonys Meet & Greet on May 1, 2013, and we will be bringing you special coverage on all of them throughout the awards season. Today we bring you Amanda Green, a nominee for Best Original Score for Hands on a Hardbody. Check out what she had to say below!
Green had the good fortune to have a second musical, Bring It On, premiere on Broadway this season after its successful national tour (LADCC nomination, Best Score; GLAAD nomination). Also on Broadway: High Fidelity (lyrics). Regional: Hallelujah Baby! (addt'l lyrics; Arena Stage, dir. Arthur Laurents); For the Love of Tiffany (lyrics, co-star; NY Fringe Festival). Awards: Jonathan Larson Award, Songwriters Hall of Fame Scholarship. Amanda performs her songs everywhere from Birdland to the Bluebird Café in Nashville, and has won two MAC Awards. Trey Anastasio performs their songs with his bands Phish and TAB.
Inspired by true events and based on the acclaimed 1997 documentary of the same name that was created by S.R. Bindler and produced by Bindler and Kevin Morris, the musical features a book by Doug Wright (Pulitzer Prize winner, I Am My Own Wife), lyrics by Amanda Green (Bring It On: The Musical), music by Trey Anastasio (Phish) and Amanda Green, direction by Neil Pepe (Broadway's Speed-The-Plow), and musical staging by Sergio Trujillo (Memphis, Jersey Boys).
