Ivy Brown Gallery brings the energetic abstract paintings of Jamel Robinson to The OUT Hotel. After a decade of writing and performing poetry, Robinson delved into the world of painting to deal with his own personal loss. Since making his painting debut three years ago, his inspiring abstract works have been added to the portfolios of some of the art world¹s most revered and diverse collectors. The OUT Hotel is located 510 W 42nd St in New York City. Robinson's exhibition can be seen daily in their lobby area through December 31st.

In the exhibition, Robinson pairs two visually conflicting bodies of work with a single theme: his signature abstract self-portraiture. He brings together vibrant scrawlings, geometrics, bold pigments and thought provoking texture watermarked with the tempestuous essence of jazz from which Robinson immerses himself when he paints. The artist describes the work as "self reflections that push through the boundaries of the incessant need to marginalize creativity with explanation; although they are heavy with my intentions and themes, the audience is given the freedom to interpret the pieces as they experience them." Unconventional and unbounded, both series excite the viewer and breathe new life from the canvas. Jamel Robinson was born and raised in Harlem where he currently lives and continues to create his art.

Founded in 2001, the Ivy Brown Gallery represents and exhibits contemporary art of all mediums. Dedicated to supporting emerging and established artists, Ivy Brown takes her experience from the commercial arts world and brings it to the fine arts arena. Her commitment to art and the critical part it plays in our humanity is the grounding force behind the gallery.
