BWW Blog: Joscelyne Tamburri - The Countdown To Naden

With less than 7 days left until opening of "All That Jazz," our big concert with the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy, the excitement within the school is practically palpable. We now have had our very first full run through of the show with most of our costumes, and though there are obviously still some rough edges (like any show would have with their first full run), everyone finally got to see the bigger picture as a company, and after seeing everything we have accomplished over these past few weeks, we should all be so proud of ourselves. I know I am sure proud of it and everyone who's been pouring every bit of their time and energy to make it become this incredible show. The high level of performance that is starting to shimmer out from inside each of us is breath-taking to see. Everyone is starting to shine from excitement, I can see the little glimmers sparking behind their eyes, and I'm looking forward to seeing those sparks really begin to ignite day by day as we reach our peak at Naden.

There's something so satisfying about dawning your show costumes for the very first rehearsal in them. It just adds that extra push of "This is real. This isn't just a class exercise combo. We are going to be doing this on stage in front of a live, paying audience." Plus we have some really cool costumes, including one that I call "sparkles galore," because it's a dress made purely of silver and black sparkles! That is what my dreams are made of, *sparkles*. More specifically pink sparkles, but I'll take whatever sparkles I can get. I'm literally "Legally Blonde: The Musical" incarnate. I'm not even joking, my friends can vouch for that. I know for me personally, costumes always bring out that extra little edge I need in the last few rehearsals to push myself to find that true performance energy I'm gonna need on stage. It's truly magical; the power a costume can have on a performer, it's a device of transformation that truly connects us with our character, in a piece of (usually sparkly) cloth.

So, as the Naden concert opening draws nearer and the numbers become cleaner, the reality of the closing of the school year leaves you wondering; what is going to happen next for us? For some, they are headed back home for the summer to save up and rest up for the school year yet to come. For others, myself included, new adventures on stages outside of CCPA are waiting; promising us an endless summer of rehearsing and doing even more of what we love. And no matter what the future may hold for us, or where it might take us, it brought all of us here to this moment, and in this moment, we are a family. A caring, determined, goofy and talented family who is ready to be on stage this Saturday, and make not only ourselves proud, but each other proud as well. This school is a gift; it gives you things that you both wanted and needed, and things you didn't know you wanted but still sub-consciously needed. I'm pretty lucky to have an amazing family supporting me at home too. My mom, dad and brother are always there supporting me - no matter what role - to cheer me on from the audience as if I was headlining act, but now I have two amazing families; my blood family, and my CCPA family, and I know both will be there for me to cheer me as I rise, and comfort me as I fall. That is something I didn't know I wanted, but needed, that CCPA has not just given to me, but everyone at our school.
