It's our last week of rehearsals for Disney's Beauty and The Beast and I am eyes-deep in frilly bloomers and life sized household objects. We have a finished show which continues being polished each day and it's so beautiful. I cannot believe how we have managed to pull together such an incredible and professional looking show in the amount of time we have been working.
The last piece that must be added though to make it even more spectacular before we hit the stage is costumes, which is where my other job, besides being a sassy ensemble member, comes into play. I am so lucky that my at school work study is Production Wardrobe, because that means I get to be an integral part of creating the clothing that every character wears, which I love, because having a say on era-appropriate details and Disney flourishes is so much fun. I've always been a nerd for musical costumes, so getting to geek out on such a costume-heavy show is heaven for me. Though, I'm pretty sure I have more sewing related injuries right now than I have of dance bruises...My thumb is permanently callused from being stabbed so many times trying to connect wolves tails to sparkly spandex bodysuits. I adore creating costumes though, like performing, it's so rewarding. You start with some fabric and thread and are able to turn it into fun, frilly bloomers.
It's worth all the pokes and pricks though. Seeing our show come together in costume is bringing us another step closer to the perfection that we all have been striving for. The costumes are amazing, Shannon, our head of wardrobe at CCPA, has done such an amazing job creating this all from within her imagination. I know I'm so extremely proud of what we are putting onto stage, and I believe she is too. Our first dress rehearsal is this week, meaning our show is almost here; our magical and memorizing finale to this school year.
Being so close to the end of the year, we also had a final "innerspace" class this week. In this class, all 60 of us, sat in a circle and each person shared how they felt about this past school year. There were laughter, tears, bittersweet goodbyes, and the reminiscing of fun memories we all shared since September. I'm so incredibly honored to have been in this school with each of these talented performers, and I'm so proud of everyone. We have grown leaps and bounds this past year, supported each other through downs, and celebrated the ups. We've been there for each other whenever, wherever, and I'm so blessed to have been able to experience this kinship of respect and love. The CCPA Company of 2017 is one I'll never forget.
OK, that's all grow this week. Until next time, stay classy and sassy.
