Top 5 NYC Experiences

Well readers, your Canadian gal made a trip to the Big Apple the week of the election! I don't know how to describe my 10000th trip - wonderful! No, 'S'wonderful! Not only were we in the midst of the election, we were surrounded by Broadway greatness everywhere we went! Here are my Top Five Broadway moments!

1) WAITRESS

I cried and laughed the entire show. This was a masterpiece baked into a beautiful pie with a taste of comedy, despair, friendship and love. From listening to the cast recording nearly every day since its May release, walking into the theatre with the smell of pie in the air was exhilarating. I'd say we had a proper visit at the diner filled with pie in a jar, a hug from Jessie Mueller and meeting the cast! Plus, Dakin Matthews gave me a picture of himself on the Gilmore Girls revival set with Liza Weil and Alexis Bledel!

2. Kristin Chenoweth: MY LOVE LETTER TO BROADWAY

We snagged tickets to the November 9th concert as soon as they were released in September. Chenoweth gave an elegant performance filled with songs that were well known in her career ("Popular" "A House Is Not A Home") and sang a song in honour of her parent's 50th wedding anniversary. Truly a small woman with spunk and power that sprang through the audience of theatre fans AND Broadway favorites (Andy Karl and Orfeh were in attendance!). Thanks to my darling friend and ushers who let me go with her to meet Kristin! She was marvelous and everything you dreamed she'd be!

3. Jason Robert Brown

Okay, so this kinda has to do with number 2. Jason Robert Brown WAS IN THE AUDIENCE. Not only that, he sang a song he wrote that morning about the election results entitled "Hope". I have a slight obsession with THE LAST FIVE YEARS and had the nerve to talk to him at intermission. He was kind and signed my Playbill! Thanks again JRB!

4. FIDDLER ON THE ROOF

For those that know me, my knowledge pertains to more of the newer shows. Seeing FIDDLER ON THE ROOF was an experience I didn't quite expect, but was incredibly pleased! The cast walking up on the stage from the bottom of the theatre during "Tradition" still gives me goosebumps! The show had scenery that was simple yet a charming look into the town of Anatevka. Danny Bernstein was a stellar Teyve, portraying the role with all of the love, honesty and comedy it entails.

5. Meeting Iain Loves Theatre

As a Child and Youth Study student, I have kept a keen eye for this young man. I've marveled at his passion for theatre and the way he explains his theatre experiences on camera for thousands of fans worldwide. Having just arrived into the city that day and running to the theatre store, seeing Iain was a huge surprise! If you ever visit Theatre Circle, you may see him around and could tell you a ghost story!

Fortunately, this is less than a quarter of the theatre experiences in New York I have to share with you. Soon I will begin chronicling every show I have seen since 2007 and will make a list of my top theatre experiences! Stay tuned, and thanks for reading the dreams and experiences of a Canadian fan!
