The cast of new musical DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, which opened on April 21st and closed on May 10th, 2015 at the Broadway Theatre, hit the recording studio this spring to prepare for the release of the show's original cast recording, out via Broadway Records today, July 31st. The album is produced by the seven-time Grammy nominated music producer Robert Sher (On The Town, How To Succeed... revival, Annie revival, Nice Work If You Can Get It). Orchestrations are by Danny Troob. Musical supervision is by Ron Melrose, who is also associate producer of the Broadway cast recording. Music arrangements are by Eric Stern. DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, based on Boris Pasternak's Nobel Prize-winning 20th-century epic Russian masterpiece, was directed by two-time Tony Award winner DesMcAnuff, with a book by Academy Award nominee Michael Weller, music by two-time Grammy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Lucy Simon, lyrics by Tony Award nominee Michael Korie and Emmy Award nominee Amy Powers, and choreography by Tony Award nominee Kelly Devine.
The cast starred Tam Mutu (as Yurii Zhivago), Kelli Barrett (as Lara Guishar), Paul Alexander Nolan (as Pasha/Strelnikoff), Tom Hewitt (as Viktor Komarovsky) and Lora Lee Gayer (as Tonia Gromeko). DOCTOR ZHIVAGO is an epic romance, revolving around the search for love during the final days of Czarist Russia, the First World War and the chaos of the Russian revolution.
