The new musical DOCTOR ZHIVAGO will play its final performance at the Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway), Sunday May 10, 2015. DOCTOR ZHIVAGO will have played 26 preview and 23 regular performances.

"We are all incredibly proud of this emotional and important work our amazing creative team has put together. There has been extraordinary dedication and inspiring work from the cast and entire DOCTOR ZHIVAGO team, both onstage and off," said producer Anita Waxman. "We look forward to this soaring and beautiful new musical having a long future with productions playing not only North America, but also around the world."

"Right now, it does take a bit of courage to do an epic historical love story that isn't riddled with irony," director Des McAnuff said yesterday evening during a panel at the 92nd Street Y. "I think we live in the age of parody, and I think there is a resistance to the epic love story, and it may have everything to do with the times we're going through."

According to The New York Times, composer Lucy Simon added, "We've had a lot of bumps. I think we were very brave to do it -- it was a big challenge, and some people really love it, which is wonderful."

The musical brought in a total of $2,659,983 after six weeks, with just $515,163 grossed in its first week of performances, compared to healthy Broadway shows taking in around $1 million per week. Doctor Zhivago was also one of this season's shows to receive no Tony Award nominations.
