AVENUE Q Will Host Special Events in Honor of World Puppetry Day  Image

Avenue Q - the Tony Award winning Best Musical set to end its 15+ year run in NYC this spring - will celebrate WORLD PUPPETRY DAY on Thursday, March 21, 2019 with a one-night-only roster of special events, including a special ticket price for any patron who brings a puppet to the show AND a Puppet Dance Party after the 8 p.m. performance at New World Stages (340 West 50th Street), it has been announced by Avenue Q producers Kevin McCollum and Robyn Goodman.

Billed as Avenue Q's "Final Fling Puppet Dance Party" -- in advance of the musical's recently-announced closing on May 26 -- the March 21 WORLD PUPPETRY DAY performance offers $30 tickets (starting at 7 p.m. that day) to anyone who brings a handheld or lap-size puppet to the show. Additionally, tickets are available online in advance for $45 and can be reserved at www.telecharge.com. The $30 price is specifically offered for World Puppetry Day on March 21 to patrons who bring a puppet to the box office, while $45 tickets are available for three performances - March 20, 21 and 22 - all at 8 p.m.

Free lap seating for puppets is always available at Avenue Q.

According to Lucy The Slut, one of the stars of Avenue Q and a top-earning, world-renowned cabaret star and Olympic gold medal pole dancer, "We're going to burn the whole house down on March 21! I expect my dance card to be, pardon the expression, verrrrry full the entire night. Men, women, chorus boys, chorus girls, sock puppets, marionettes, bunraku -- bring 'em on!"

Tickets are regularly priced between $75.50 to $97.

AVENUE Q has music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff Whitty, and is directed by Jason Moore. Based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, with puppets conceived and designed by Rick Lyon, musical supervision by Stephen Oremus, choreography by Ken Roberson, scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by Mirena Rada, lighting design by Howell Binkley, and sound design by ACME Sound Partners. Music director is Brian Hertz. Animation design is by Robert Lopez, incidental music is by Gary Adler, and casting is by Cindy Tolan & Adam Caldwell. Christine M. Daly is Production Stage Manager.

After its 6+ year run on Broadway, on the occasion of the musical's closing night in September 2009, Avenue Q's producers made the surprise announcement that the show was, in fact, not closing, but would open again three weeks later at New World Stages, where it has been playing for more than 9 years.

The current cast of Avenue Q includes Katie Boren, Grace Choi, Matt Dengler, Jamie Glickman, Imari Hardon, Jason Jacoby, Nicholas Kohn, Veronica Kuehn, Lacretta, Michael Liscio, Jr., and Rob Morrison.

AVENUE Q's unforgettable cast of characters include Princeton, Kate Monster, Rod, Lucy The Slut, Trekkie Monster, Gary Coleman, The Bad Idea Bears, Mrs. Thistletwat, Christmas Eve and Brian.

Now through May 26 at New World Stages, Avenue Q performs Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00 pm, Saturdays at 2:30 pm and 8:00 pm, and Sundays at 3:00 pm and 7:30 pm.
