Between 55 & 60 children will be cast in the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s original musical adaptation of “The Little Mermaid,” and some of those young stars could very well be yours!  All youths between the ages of 6 & 17 are welcome to the free audition and no experience is necessary.  Auditions will start at 9 a.m. Monday, July 6 at the Ruidoso Middle School gymnasium at 134 Reese Drive. (Parents or guardians are asked to arrive at the audition shortly before the start time so that they may fill out a basic permission slip with contact information). Children are asked to wear comfortable clothing and sneakers, to wear their best smiles and to speak out loud!  They also have to be willing to commit to the daily rehearsals held at the Spencer immediately following the auditions. (The show’s directors will issue rehearsal schedules to the children at the close of the audition).

Packed with whimsical songs and dances, the performance of “The Little Mermaid” takes the spotlights at the Spencer at 7 p.m. Friday, July 10. Show tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for children 12 years or younger. Call the Spencer Box Office at 575.336.4800 or go online to www.spencertheater.com for ticket information.

In MCT's version of the old-age tale, plot surprises and humor await the audience:

Deep in the salty waters of the Sassafras Sea, there lived a Little Mermaid. Her name was Celia. She lived for music. In fact, it was said that she had the loveliest scales in all of the Deep. Celia and her three sisters were allowed one visit to the World Above, each on their sixteenth birthday, to learn the secrets of life on dry land. Their discoveries included ferocious dragons, advancing armies and, of course, a handsome and resourceful Prince Charming….

“The Little Mermaid” is sponsored by Ruidoso Lincoln Ford Mercury, which has generously supported Missoula Children’s Theatre at the Spencer since 1998.

Unique architecture, outstanding acoustics, intimate seating, and excellent artistry are the Spencer’s celebrated features.  The elegant, award-winning hall, which first raised its curtains in 1997, seats 514, with no seats farther than 67 feet from the 4,770 square-foot stage.  The Spencer also has a 964 square-foot outdoor stage that can seat 1,500. From its Spanish mica-flecked limestone face to the crystal lobby, the building itself is a work of art.  Free public tours are offered at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year.
