BWW Review: Sting's THE LAST SHIP Stars Scene-Stealing Scenic Design by 59 Productions
by Shari Barrett - Jan 24, 2020

The real star of the show is its designed-to-travel, multi-level scenic design by 59 Productions, enhanced by sound designer Sebastian Front and lighting designer Matt Daw, which includes some of the most amazing projections I have ever witnessed that completely transform into the many scenes required, from the shipyard, inside homes, the local beer pub, to an extraordinary church interior that generated gasps from the audience, as well as the appearance of waves crashing on the docks and snow falling. But it is the final scene when the Utopia, the last ship to be built, launches from the soon-to-close shipyard that will take your breath away. It's just a shame it takes almost 3 hours to get to it.

BWW Reviews: ON THE RAZZLE Cast Dives into Stoppard's Farcical Hilarity Full Force
by Shari Barrett - Oct 12, 2014

ON THE RAZZLE is an older British term for what we in the colonies would translate as 'partying down.' Playwright Tom Stoppard has stated that his 'primary concern is to make the tale as comic an entertainment as possible.' Stoppard's farce consists of two hours of slapstick shenanigans, mistaken identities, misdirected orders, malapropisms, double entendres, and romantic complications. There is no great earthshaking social message here, just impossible situations, incredible physicality, and loads of laughs.

BWW Reviews: SHREK THE MUSICAL Brings Romance and Twisted Fairy Tale Characters to Life in Simi Valley
by Shari Barrett - Mar 10, 2014

In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre - not a handsome prince - shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won't shut up, a bad guy with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude, and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand… and his name is SHREK.

BWW Reviews: According to Tom Stoppard, THE REAL THING in Life is Love
by Shari Barrett - Feb 10, 2014

The play examines the nature of honesty, and its use of a play within a play is one of many levels on which the author teases the audience with the difference between semblance and reality, both in love and on the stage. Couples change partners easily and partners confront each other when the evidence points to acts of indiscretion. And it seems the women are the worst offenders.
