During Musicals in our Schools Week, Monday, March 18 through Monday, March 25, students, educators, industry leaders and community members advocate for the importance of quality arts programs in schools through grassroots efforts like organizing a flash mob, giving a free public performance from a Spring musical or sending a thank you note to an educator via letter, internet, video or kind deed. Broadway is shining the spotlight on the importance of musical theater programs in schools by endorsing Musicals in our Schools Week happening March 19-23, 2012. Through Musicals in our Schools Week afterschool programs, children's theaters, schools, community theaters, performing arts centers and professional theaters will advocate for educational musical theater locally, nationally and globally. The program will be held annually in the third full week of March in honor of both Stephen Sondheim's and Andrew Lloyd Webber's birthdays (March 22). Photo Flash: Florida Grand Opera's Flash Mob at Miami Airport

Travelers at the Miami Int. Airport were treated to a surprise performance by Florida Grand Opera singers on Feb. 29th, courtesy of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation's 'Random Acts of Culture' program. A total of six surprise opera performances took the airport by storm. Singers sat and stood casually among other bystanders waiting for flights in terminal D. Then, suddenly, the music began and was shortly followed by seven vocalists performing ' Libiamo' (the Drinking Song) from Verdi's La Traviata. (more...)

Photo Coverage: Broadway Takes Part in Shellac Flash Mob in Times Square fo Fashion Week

On Septembet 14th in the Heart of Times Square, 60 New York City Theatre Professionals (ranging from Broadway Veterans, to Radio City Rockettes) began to arise from the hustle and bustle to sing and dance their hearts out about the hottest nail product on the market: Shellac, created by CND (www.CND.COM). This was one of the biggest and most exciting Musical Theatre Flashmob's ever produced in Times Square, not just a random step touch dance number but a fully stage production number with ladies belting their faces and kicking about as high as the second floor of the A.E.A building. On June 27th Toronto celebrated the 32nd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards which honour excellence in Canada theatre. BWW was on hand for the complete event, including the VIP reception where nominees mingled with sponsors and patrons, the award show itself and of course, the happening after-party which shut down Front St for most of the night.
