Walnut Street Theatre (WST) continues its 213th season with Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID. Directed by Glenn Casale and choreographed by John MacInnis, the production begins previews on November 16, 2021, opens November 24, and continues through January 2, 2022 on the Walnut’s Mainstage.

Aurora's Paramount Theatre will launch its third Broadway subscription series this September with the first local professional staging of In the Heights, one of Broadway's most acclaimed contemporary musicals, a potent reminder of the importance of chasing one's dreams, and the show all of Chicago will be talking about this fall. The 22nd Annual GYPSY OF THE YEAR Competition raised $3,776,720 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, thanks to the tireless work of 63 participating Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring companies, it was announced Tuesday. Since 1989, the 22 editions of GYPSY OF THE YEAR have raised a total of $44,137,415 to benefit BC/EFA.

Broadway In Chicago, DreamWorks and Navy Pier are proud to announce a new addition to family fun on the Pier. Look Inside the Swamp: Shrek from Book to Film to Stage opened Friday, July 30 in the Lower Terrace Level next to the Stained Glass Museum.

RENT, written by Jonathan Larson, will be performed at the Hollywood Bowl for three performances only, Friday and Saturday August 6 and 7 at 8:30pm, and Sunday August 8 at 7:30pm. Neil Patrick Harris will direct the production, with musical direction by Tim Weil and choreography by Jamal Sims. The cast includes Skylar Astin, Wayne Brady, Vanessa Hudgens, Telly Leung, Collins Pennie, Nicole Scherzinger, Tracie Thoms, and Aaron Tveit.

Last night, Monday, May 10, The New Group opened their latest production of The Kid. This marks the final production in The New Group's current 2009-2010 season, which featured Kenneth Lonergan's The Starry Messenger and most recently, the hit revival of Sam Shepard's A Lie of the Mind, directed by Ethan Hawke. The Kid plays a limited Off-Broadway engagement through May 29 at The New Group @ Theatre Row. BroadwayWorld was on hand to capture the opening night after party arrivals.

Beginning November 10th, Ben Crawford has been performing the title role of ‘Shrek'. Crawford replaces Tony Award® nominee Brian d'Arcy James, who departed after the performance on Sunday, November 8th to appear in Manhattan Theatre Club's production of Time Stands Still.

The cast and crew of SHREK THE MUSICAL, the Tony Award-winning production, celebrated the show's one year anniversary on Broadway with a reception on stage at the Broadway Theatre on Sunday, November 8th after the matinee performance. Cupcakes were provided to the cast by CRUMBS Bake Shop. The production also said goodbye to original 'SHREK' star Brian d'Arcy James who played his final performance in the title role yesterday as well.
