Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director/CEO) presented a one-night only Benefit Reading of Oscar Wilde's beloved comedy The Importance of Being Earnest starring the legendary 5-time Tony winner Angela Lansbury as “Lady Bracknell.” The cast also includes Daniel Davis as “Lane,” John Glover as “Reverend Canon Chasuble,” Tony winner Jayne Houdyshell as “Miss Prism,” Simon Jones as “Merriman,” Hamish Linklater as “John Worthing,” Rebecca Night as “Cecily Cardew,” Lily Rabe as “Gwendolen Fairfax” and Tom Rhoads as “Algernon Moncrieff.”

A Trivial Comedy for Serious People, by Oscar Wilde, first performed on 14 February 1895 at the St James's Theatre in London. The Play tells the story of Jack and Algernon, two young men who maintain fictitious personae to escape burdensome social obligations. Through a series of schemes, lies, and hidden identities, the two men find themselves in the Country at Jack's estate, both under assumed names, and both engaged to be Married. Tony nominee Stephanie D'Abruzzo, rising cabaret star Jennifer Sheehan, and multi-award-winning star of ZOMBIE, Bill Connington, appeared in a sold-out staged reading of The Importance of Being Earnest ('A Trivial Comedy for Serious People') by Oscar Wilde. Joining them were Gayton Scott (Gypsy), Brian Charles Rooney (Threepenny Opera), Annmarie Benedict (Robeson) and Michael Keyloun (Tartuffe). The staged reading was site-specific, and was performed in the white and gold gilded ballroom of a private Eastside club. The evening was produced by Razors Edge Productions.
