Beginning November 10th, Ben Crawford has been performing the title role of ‘Shrek'. Crawford replaces Tony Award® nominee Brian d'Arcy James, who departed after the performance on Sunday, November 8th to appear in Manhattan Theatre Club's production of Time Stands Still.
The cast and crew of Shrek the Musical, the Tony Award-winning production, celebrated the show's one year anniversary on Broadway with a reception on stage at the Broadway Theatre on Sunday, November 8th after the matinee performance. Cupcakes were provided to the cast by CRUMBS Bake Shop. The production also said goodbye to original 'SHREK' star Brian d'Arcy James who played his final performance in the title role yesterday as well.
The lucky winners were flown to New York to rehearse with Sutton Foster and members of the show's creative team, have a costume fitting, and appear in Shrek the Musical for one night only. The will be singing 'I Know It's Today' with Sutton Foster. The girls arrived to begin their rehearsal with Sutton Foster and music director, Eric Stern. Yesterday, Thursday, September 17th, BroadwayWorld.com's cameras were invited to come to the theatre to meet Laura and Hannah and capture their first meeting with Sutton Foster!
Tony Award-winner Sutton Foster, currently starring as Princess Fiona in Broadway's Shrek the Musical, had her caricature unveiled at the world famous Sardi's Restaurant on March 3rd. Foster's likeness joined the ranks of Broadway royalty who have been honored with a caricature on the famous walls of Sardi's. BroadwayWorld joined the fun as Sutton's caricature was put up on the famous wall!
On Monday, January 12th, the entire cast of Shrek the Musical congregated at Legacy Studios in New York City to record the cast album of the stage production. Shrek the Musical features music written by Olivier Award-winner Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie & Caroline, or Change), a book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winner David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole), and the production is directed by Tony nominee Jason Moore (Avenue Q). Jeanine Tesori also will be at the helm of the cast album as producer along with Shrek the Musical's sound designer Peter Hylenski as the album's co-producer.
