Ghostlight Records released the long-awaited cast recording of Carrie: The Musical yesterday, September 25, 2012, preserving the recent MCC Theater (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, William Cantler, Artistic Directors; Blake West, Executive Director) Off-Broadway revival. Just yesterday, the cast gathered at Barnes & Noble to celebrate the release with a special performance and CD signing. Ghostlight Records this week went into the recording studio with the cast of Carrie, to record the first-ever cast album. Release dates for the album will be announced at a later time. The cast recording of Carrie will be produced by the show's composer Michael Gore alongside multi-Grammy Award-winner Joel Moss, with Ghostlight Records' Kurt Deutsch serving as Executive Producer.

MCC Theater's newly reworked and fully re-imagined production of Carrie, the musical, had its first preview tonight at 7 p.m. at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC). In attendance was Piper Laurie, who was nominated for an Academy Award for her performance as Margaret White in the film version of Carrie (Tony Award nominee Marin Mazzie plays the role in the musical). The 21st Annual GYPSY OF THE YEAR COMPETITION announced an all time record total of $4,630,695 had been raised by the 60 participating Broadway, Off-Broadway, and National Tour companies to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. This year's total breaks the previous record when $3,927,000 was raised for the 2007 GYPSY OF THE YEAR COMPETITION.
