The Phantom of the Opera celebrated 35 years on Broadway last night, January 26, at the Majestic Theatre. Following the show, a special curtain call was held, featuring a performance and speech from members of the cast. Stephen Sondheim, theatre legend, sadly passed away on November 26th, 2021. His mark on the world was not lost on anyone, and he outpour of love and appreciated for him as a person, lyricist, and composer has been nonstop since the news was broken. CBS News' 60 Minutes is highlighting the great Sondheim's life by releasing an archived interview the composer did with host Diane Sawyer back in 1988.

Today we rewind to 2014, when Heathers was getting ready to premiere off-Broadway.  Heathers features music, lyrics and book by Laurence O'Keefe and Kevin Murphy, and is based on the 1988 film of the same name written by Daniel Waters.

In this episode of 'In Focus', host Eden Lane brings you the Ballet Mistresses of Colorado Ballet's GISELLE. Lorita Travaglia's experience with this classic storybook ballet began with Nureyev and Evdokimova at Berlin Ballet in 1978. Sandra Brown's started at American Ballet Theater in 1988. Both of these incredible women have danced most of the roles form corps de ballet to soloist. Lane learns how this extensive experience helps the young dancers capture the unique spirit of 'Giselle'. Today in 2002, Hairspray opened at the Neil Simon Theatre, where it ran for 2642 performances. Hairspray is a musical with music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman and a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, based on the 1988 John Waters film Hairspray. In 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, plump teenager Tracy Turnblad's dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance program. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight. She then launches a campaign to integrate the show. Hairspray is a social commentary on the injustices of parts of American society in the 1960s.

Ailey II recently completed a successful four week international tour with performances in Luxemburg, Germany, Poland and Lithuania. While in Warsaw Poland, Ailey II appeared on Poland's version of "So You Think You Can Dance." Troy Powell who will become Artistic Director of Ailey II next month, taught the four finalists choreography from his 2011 work Reference Point and the finalists attended Ailey II's performance at Poland's Palace of Culture and Science.

The Boston College Theatre Department and Robsham Theater Arts Center will present the hit musical Dirty Rotten Scoundrels April 27 - May 1, 2011 on the Robsham Main Stage. Adapted from the 1988 feature film comedy starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine, the musical, with music and lyrics by David Yazbek (The Full Monty) and a book by Jeffrey Lane, tells the story of two con artists battling head-to-head in an effort to swindle an heiress out of her riches.
